No. 11 - Scout, Prep, Shoot (Then the Camera Died)
Commercial directing, where nothing ever goes exactly as planned.
Episode 2 of Ground(ed) Glass just went live on YouTube this morning.
This one takes you through the full arc of a recent Pharma commercial I directed—from the location scout, to what happens once I get back home and start prepping, to how the shoot actually played out. I walk through some of the gear I bring on scouts, how I use it, and what my workflow looks like when I’m back at my desk.
Then I tell a story from the final scene of the shoot—when our ALEXA 35 camera completely froze on set. No fix in sight, right at the end of a long day 2 of 2. The way the crew adapted and how the client responded gave me a lot of appreciation for what makes a great production, especially under pressure.
